My Story

By: FosterSurvivor
I have thought long and hard about writing my life story. It was a hard decision to make. I sought out information on the computer about foster care. I came across a newsgroup alt.support.foster-parents I realized there were more people who did not understand how the system works. I guess I was a little ignorant my self. I assumed everyone should be able to see the suffering CPS brings into people's lives. I don't want my story to be one of pity. My only purpose in telling my life history is the hope that it will bring awareness to others and perhaps give someone else the courage to tell theirs. I believe that to talk about our experiences with CPS, is perhaps like a rape victim, If we continue to remain silent the rapist goes free. Only when we speak out can we make others aware of the danger and only then there will be hope for change. more..

A Survivor's Poem

By: Survivor
I was born in August. I imagine it was hot as any ordinary summer. Other babies were born that day, born into their mommy's arms, with family awaiting the miracle to join them. I was different. They never even knew that I existed. Orphans make problems, and I was one come age three. My mommy was young--too young to raise babies, despite the fact she had three. And so they came to carry us away and apart, sure to see a better life than with mommy. more...

Home Snatchers

By: Corina
This story, about one Corina, has been posted at the Werme Family Home Page. It was written by Corina herself, and is very moving. A quote from her 'honorary' Grandfather, "Here is Corina's story. She wants her name on it. The only editing was for words so misspelled that their meaning was too vague and/or misleading. She was about 8 yrs old at the time, and about 10 when she wrote it. ". more...

Pillar To Post

By:Amoreena
My sister and I were taken away from our mother who the social services believed was unfit to look after us.  I was seven then.  we were placed into foster care. Things didn't work out for me and I was put into various foster homes where I felt totally unloved and at one, was physically abused. Then onto children's homes where I became pregnant at 14 and had to have an abortion. This was the start to the downward spiral, my social worker was totally unhelpful.  I still have a lot to get over. I feel the system has totally let me down.

Breaking the Mold

By: Puppet master
I entered the foster care system at the age of seven along with my two older siblings. After 11 years of being in care I have successfully emancipated, completed my GED, and entered my third semester in college. I know the statistics concerning foster children after emancipation. And I refuse to become one of them. I am not a statistic. I am not research. I am not somebody's data. I am more than a product of my environment. I am anything I choose to be. I am breaking the mold.
